Located at the River Oaks Golf Club away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Paso Robles, this newly opened restaurant currently offers safe, socially distant, outside patio dining and curbside pickup.
True to its name, Comfort America Kitchen offers a great selection of comfort food classics, like chicken noodle soup, mac ‘n cheese, shepherd’s pie, meatloaf, a daily casserole, and fried chicken. However, after a day of record-breaking heat in Paso Robles, we opted to sample the lighter fare on the menu.
To kick off the al fresco meal, I ordered the Grilled Artichoke, served with a lemon wedge and Dijon Aioli. Before I could take a photo of the composed plate, the family had tucked in and declared it absolutely delicious!
Other appetizers I tasted included tender Calamari Strips with Chipotle Tartar, Curry and Clams, and Carrots and Dirt. So, so good!
After the palate-stimulating first round, I opted for a small Beet Salad, which was tasty, but I would have preferred a bit more goat cheese.
Hubby substituted his main course for a deep-flavored bowl of French Onion Soup.
My son opted for the Pan Seared Halibut, with mushrooms, and quinoa in a creamy Tarragon Sauce. This dish is usually made with Striped Bass, but they were out of it. The Halibut, however, made an excellent substitution.
All in all a lovely casual dinner, away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Paso Robles, and with a sunset view to boot!
Our server was the warm, friendly and efficient Phoebe. Great service, and my almost 3 year old grand-daughter thought so too!
The restaurant serves wine and beer only, but they have a good selection. Apparently, they also have a 3pm-5pm Happy Hour, on Monday through Friday, with $2.00 off all appetizers, beer and wine.
We appreciated the bottle of hand sanitizer on each table…nice touch! All in all a very pleasant evening, and we will definitely be back!
